LONDON, England - "The Screening Room" is taking a close look at the role critics play in the film industry this month.

Kevin Spacey says the Internet has changed the role of the film critic. Where do you get your reviews?

Reviewers have the power to influence audiences around the world, especially in this intensely competitive market.

At the same time, there are those films that have achieved box office success, despite being panned by critics. Remember "The Da Vinci Code," or more recently, "Mamma Mia?"

In this month's show, we get the lowdown from actors, directors and meet the critics themselves.

We also want to hear from you. Do reviews influence the films you see? Do you think critics have too much power? Not enough?

How important do you think critics are? Leave your comments below.

That's not a good thing.

The films must have judged by people.

Not critics.

If the critics dont like it my wife and I will go see it. If the critics like it we will at least find out more about it to see if it is something we would like. The critics dont know what normal people like. They think they know what everyone likes i'm sorry no one knows that.

The only movie critic whose judgement I normally trust is Roger Ebert. The only time I remember having a differing point of view was on his assesment of Dark City, a movie that he seemed to adore which I didn't enjoy all that much. I'm sure there have been some others, but most of the time our perspectives on movies seem to be in sync.

Overall, I think that professional movie critics do serve some practical purpose. But I don't trust their judgement over my own.

There are one or two i read because i respect their opinions and i know how their thoughts reflect my own, including one i know i almost always disagree with, but generally i think there are too many critics and many are too self-important.

Largely they are pointless. A critic will never influence me on a film i'm interested in – and i don't need critics or film press to know what's coming up. The only influence they may have – and it is still rare – is if there's a film i am certain i don't want to see and the critics unanimously love it. But then this hardly ever happens because about the only films i am certain i never want to see are unfunny trash like Meet The Spartans

Taking film advice from a trustworthy critic, such as Roger Ebert, is much more reliable and important than taking it from the generally superficial and unexperienced public. In fact, one of the key differences between critics and most people is that a critic can distinguish a bad film from a good one (with strong arguments) while most people often deem a good film good, but call a bad film good too.

critics are pointless. Movies that have been trashed by the critics go on to rake in millions at the box office and those that get rave reviews perfom miserably.
i.e. want a movie to fail, make the critics love it.
The public has the last word!!!!
