Other people talking in the cinema during a film is probably the number one gripe of most movie-goers.  So, what do you do? Fume quietly, shush them or, perhaps, turn around and politely ask them to shut up.

Brad Pitt in 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,' which also stars Cate Blanchett.

Not if you are 29-year-old James Joseph Cialella. This man was so riled by a talking family during a Christmas Day showing of new Brad Pitt movie, "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" in a Philadelphia cinema that he pulled out a gun and shot the father in the arm, according to police in Philadelphia. To add insult to injury he also pelted the man's son with popcorn.

Even more curiously, Mr Cialella then sat down to watch the rest of the film. He was later arrested and faces six charges including attempted murder.

Quite why Mr Cialella was "carrying a Kel-Tec .380-caliber handgun clipped inside his sweatpants" during a trip to the cinema is anyone's guess but he is probably wishing he had tried the other kind of movie shooting now.

that´s a social apocalypse drawing near all over the world. People are presently losing their ability to stand to reason, definitely. They take to absurd behaviors like duck to the water. Just incredible. Here in Brazil it became a dreadful ritual parents throwing their children out the window in very high buildings. Family ties, proper education are gone with the winds. Quite the problem just starts in childhood. Teens are no longer interested in culture. They think that being a computer or phone cell operators is enough. I´m a teatcher and the main difficulty I face is just to find teens with reasonable conditions to learn.

Be that as it may, I think it's not the most inappropriate response to people who constantly talk during the movie. On a scale from 1 to 10, 1 being the most inappropriate, it's a 2 or 3.
1, of course, is doing nothing at all. And 10 is quietly following them after the movie and shooting them in a dark alley with an unregistered handgun so that nobody links you to the murder. Duh!

It is beyond me that someone–a grown man of all people– would do something so impulsive. And on Christmas day?!

what a waste of popcorn...

i bet that guy won't talk in the movies anymore.

I would never condone violence as a solution to a problem, but I can understand the impulse that drove the shooter. I do not visit the movies anymore because of inconsiderate movie-goers who behave as though they were at home on their couch.
If someone is being annoying and is then asked to discontinue their behaviour, most likely it will end in a confrontation, which of course disrupts the movie even more.
Common courtesy is an outdated, old-fashioned concept that has absolutely no place in our modern society.
I wait for DVD's nowadays. And the popcorns cheaper, too. LOL.

And then he realized that he was watching the most boring movie in the last decade and went out to apologize to the family and ask them to come back in and chatter away because anything is more entertaining than 3 hours of Brad Pitt losing his old man make-up and gaining light filters.

I once was disturbed by teenage speaking loudly. I approached and sat next to them asking firmly and gently to calm down and respect assistance then left back to my place.
He carried on having fun at me... I was stressed to maximum override... but didnt react before the end of the movie (30 min later)... I quit my place and found to be next to the kid going down the stairs... I provoqued my fall and grab his soda from his hand pouring it all over his shirt. I told how much I was sorry having disturb him and proposed to pay him another drink... he almost cried and told he would speak to his father who would catch him at the exit... I proposed to talk to his father about his brave kid... father never showed and I left relieved... Do you think the kid get it or is he still annoying people on purpose? The difference with the story here is that I wasnt armed with a handgun... I guess I would have used it in the state of stress this kid got me. But for goodness I live in Europe and you are not allowed to carry gun in public... Thats the relevant problem here... THE GUN !

Deep down, we all know he was right to shot the guy. Sure, it was a bit harsh.

But it was the right thing to do.
